cont.... I found myself in a place called Memphis, Tennessee where my well-cushioned and ventilated new accommodations were surrounded by similar domiciles with similar rocks. Some were odd shapes, and some had accents I'd never heard before. But all in all, everyone seemed happy and comfortable. However, there was certainly some unease; rumors abounded that residents would, from time-to-time, disappear, just as I had disappeared from my homeland. We weren't sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing. I soon found out... One day, a few of my new neighbors disappeared briefly, only to come back and explain to me that they had been “looked at” or “inspected” and appeared to be being evaluated to go to a new home. I was intrigued, but I was also still scared. Before I could really digest any of this, however, I was picked up and carted-out to a “display area” by a tall, pretty blond woman, who seemed very eager to show me off to someone. There was this guy there, who was apparently looking for an “engagement ring” for his girlfriend. He wanted to get “married,” or something like that. In any event, he looked me over, and he talked about my size, my shape, my color, and my “clarity.” I would have probably been offended, but they both seemed so nice and complementary. Ultimately, he said he “wanted me,” and the next thing I know, I had roommates. I was taken in for some more spa treatments when I met two other rocks that appeared to be twins. They were both triangle-shaped, which I had not seen before. Nonetheless, they were not related. They introduced me to their friend, who was different from them but no less interesting. Their friend was a band of metal, “platinum” to be exact as the band reminded me on more than one occasion. The band was sturdy, shapely, and fine with some of the most exciting aesthetic features I have ever seen. I felt my color change a bit, and I was hoping it wouldn't effect my “clarity” to the band or anyone else. Apparently, my new friends had not seen one of my kind before either. They told me I must be from a rare tribe because I looked like a cross between some really fantastic rock tribes they had seen. I was “special” and “interesting” to them. Of course, I always suspected that I had good genes. We got to know one another relatively well, including myself and the band, and the next thing I knew, we were “joined at the hip,” so to speak, and were moved into an even cushier place to live. cont.... |
